Laut Túlio Espanca hatte dieses Dorf den ursprünglichen Namen Aldeia da Igreja. Es wurde an der Stelle gegründet, an der eine römische Villa errichtet wurde, die heute der wichtigste römische Überrest der Gemeinde Estremoz ist.
Die Pfarrkirche war eine Auszeichnung des Ordens von Avis und wurde 1534 kirchlich besucht.

Gegenwärtig weist es architektonische Merkmale auf, die für das 17. Jahrhundert typisch sind, obwohl im Chor eine ältere Motte zu sehen ist. Auf der Vorderseite befinden sich einige polychrome Kacheln aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, ebenso wie im Inneren, am Fuß des Kirchenschiffs. Es hat auch einen Altar von relevantem künstlerischem Interesse mit einem goldfarbenen Altarbild aus dem Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts im Rokokostil.
