Volgens Túlio Espanca had dit dorp de primitieve naam Aldeia da Igreja. Het werd gesticht op dezelfde plaats waar een Romeinse villa werd gevestigd, vandaag de dag het belangrijkste Romeinse overblijfsel van de gemeente Estremoz.
De parochiekerk was een loflied voor de Orde van Avis en had een kerkelijk bezoek in 1534.

Momenteel presenteert het architecturale kenmerken die gebruikelijk zijn in de zeventiende eeuw, hoewel het koor een oudere mot onthult. Aan de voorkant bevinden zich enkele polychrome tegels die op dezelfde manier uit de zeventiende eeuw komen, net als in het binnenland, aan de voet van het schip. Het heeft ook een altaar van relevant artistiek belang, met een goudkleurig altaarstuk uit het einde van de 18e eeuw, in de rococo-stijl.
