Selon Túlio Espanca, ce village aurait eu le nom primitif d'Aldeia da Igreja. Elle a été fondée à l'endroit même où était érigée une villa romaine, qui est aujourd'hui le plus important vestige romain de la municipalité d'Estremoz.
L'église paroissiale a été félicitée par l'ordre de Avis et a été visitée en 1534.

À l'heure actuelle, il présente des caractéristiques architecturales communes au XVIIe siècle, bien que le chœur révèle un papillon de nuit plus ancien. Sur le devant se trouvent des carreaux polychromes du XVIIe siècle, tout comme à l'intérieur, à la base de la nef. Il possède également un autel présentant un intérêt artistique pertinent, avec un retable doré de la fin du XVIIIe siècle, de style rococo.
