Secondo Túlio Espanca, questo villaggio aveva il nome primitivo di Aldeia da Igreja. Fu fondata nello stesso luogo in cui fu fondata una villa romana, essendo oggi la più importante vestigia romana del comune di Estremoz.
La chiesa parrocchiale fu elogio dell'Ordine di Avis e ebbe visite ecclesiastiche nel 1534.

Attualmente presenta caratteristiche architettoniche comuni al diciassettesimo secolo, anche se il coro rivela una falena più antica. Sul fronte ci sono alcune piastrelle policrome che sono analogamente del diciassettesimo secolo, proprio come nell'interno, alla base della navata. Ha anche un altare di rilevante interesse artistico, con una pala d'altare color oro della fine del XVIII secolo, in stile rococò.
