À partir du XVe siècle, avec la pacification générale du territoire portugais et le grand appétit de D. Afonso V (1438-1481) pour la chasse, le Paço Real estremocense (surtout en hiver) abrite aujourd'hui le monarque et son nombreux tribunaux pendant de longues périodes, obligeant le gardien en chef et sa famille à quitter le palais de façon cyclique.

C'est dans ce contexte que D. Sancho de Noronha fit construire cette noble demeure pour sa résidence privée vers 1450, mettant ainsi en valeur le village médiéval doté de la façade d'architecture civile la plus intéressante de la partie supérieure d'Estremoz. Cela révèle un hybride d'une singularité remarquable, mettant en évidence plusieurs styles du mudéjar (XVe et début du XVIe siècle, coexistant avec le gothique tardif et le manuélin), la Renaissance, le manuélin ou le néoclassique.
