Santa Cruz Cabrália
Santa Cruz Cabrália is located on the Discovery Coast, and it is to this village that the arrival of Pedro Alvares Cabral is attributed to the discovery of Brazil.
Santa Cruz Cabrália is one of the historic cities of the state of Bahia, because it was held in the 1st and 2nd Mass in Brazil, both celebrated by Frei Henrique de Coimbra, chaplain of the navy of Pedro Álvares Cabral, on April 26 and May 1500, the first held at the southern end of Cabrália Bay, more precisely at the Red Crown and the second at the mouth of the Mutari River.
In 1536, Pero do Campo Tourinho founded a village called Vera Cruz, which was razed by the Aimorés in 1564, at the bay inlet. For this reason, the inhabitants moved to the banks of the Sernampetiba River or Rio de Tiba River, the new settlement known as Santa Cruz.
In the 1580s, the Vila de Santa Cruz was transferred to a plateau at the mouth of the Rio de Tiba River, the present Historic Center, as a way of providing the population with better conditions of defense for frequent indigenous attacks.
In the upper part of the city are the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church, built in the 17th century, the House of the House and Chain, which housed the first Intendance of Brazil, an 18th century building, and the ruins of an old college Jesuit of the 16th century.
