Pirenopolis
The history of Pirenópolis is one of the most relevant of the State of Góias. The city was founded as a small village in 1727, when Manoel Rodrigues Tomás, head of a group of prospectors submitted to the pioneer Anhanguera and guided by Urbano do Couto Menezes, arrived in the region with the mission of discovering new gold deposits. The former Minas de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Meia Ponte (name inspired by a flood that brought down part of the bridge of the Rio das Almas) became a prospector's camp and its growth was linked to this activity. The main workforce was made up of black and Indian slaves who still inhabited the region. It became a lawless land marked by authoritarianism, violence and tax evasion.

The first street of the city, was a link between an inn (at the exit to Vila Boa, today Goiás) and the gold panning, transported by the North Road, which passed inside the Bomsucesso Farm. The urban center developed around the Mother Church until the construction of the Bonfim and Carmo Churches, which attracted houses to their surroundings. Between 1830 and 1834, the city hosted the first newspaper of the state of Goiás, called Matutino Meia Pontense.

In the second half of the eighteenth century, the growth of Pirenópolis was paralyzed due to the crisis of gold exploitation. In 1800 there is a recovery of the economy, leveraged by agriculture (mainly cotton), livestock and trade. Despite changes in the region's trade routes from 1850, the growth of the urban center goes back to the late 19th century, when the city underwent a period of economic and cultural stability.

In 1890, its official name became Pirenópolis, a tribute to the Pyrenees Mountain, which surrounds the whole city. The mountain, in turn, was named after the mountain range that separates France from Spain.

Keeping its original features and traditions preserved and intact, Pirenópolis was declared by the (IPHAN) Institute of National Historical Heritage in 1988. The city, nicknamed the "Capital of the Silver", "Cradle of the Goiana Press", "Athens of Góias" "and" Paris-nopolis ", among others, has its economy today based on crafts and tourism. "Pedra-de-Pirenópolis" is used in civil construction for coverings and floors and decorates streets and houses of the city.

Weather
Sub-humid tropical with two well-defined seasons: the rainy season, which runs from October to March, and the dry season, which runs from April to September. The municipality, being part mountainous, maintains some climatic variations due to the altitudes. With a mountain range flanking the eastern part of the municipality in a south-north direction, it partly blocks the humid southeast currents of strong maritime influence. It receives, due to this relief formation, mainly during the rainy season, moisture coming from the north-northwest, of Amazonian origin. The prevailing winds are southeast, which reach over the mountains. There may be gusts of north wind during the rainy season. The most critical periods are September / October when the drought is strong and the sun begins to warm, and between February and March, when the humidity is very high and begins to cool.

Within the Brazilian regional gastronomy we find in Pirenópolis the Minas Gerais, Bahia, Carioca, Northeastern, etc. And in international cuisine, we have French, Italian, Arabic, Portuguese etc. For these reasons Pirenópolis has become a gastronomic tourist destination, whose strong point is the Gastronomic and Cultural Festival that takes place every year during the month of June.
