Alter do Chão
In the middle of the jungle, Alter do Chão, a fishing village, is one of the administrative districts 35 kilometers from the municipality of Santarém, in the state of Pará, the second largest city in Pará, which turns into a popular beach resort when the waters of the river and leave the paradisiacal scenery in sight.
Delightful, the beach has become an obligatory stop for cruises that sail through the Amazon River basin.

Tourism
In Alter do Chão there are beautiful beaches with extremely white sands, bathed by the sweet and crystalline waters of the Tapajós river. The beauty of these beaches is associated with the legendary Lago Verde or Lago de Muiraquitãs.
The meeting of the Tapajós River with the Amazon River, when the waters do not mix; the Lake of the Maicá, with its mirror of water and beautiful birds; the Tapajós National Forest and its cozy riverside communities.
Due to its peculiar characteristics and natural and cultural attractions, Alter do Chão currently receives a large number of tourists and cruise ships. For this reason, this village is an important tourist center of the region.

Gastronomy
The gastronomic specialty of Santarém is the fish of the rivers Tapajós and Amazonas as the pirarucu, tucunaré, tambaqui and Surubim that combined with the spices satisfy the most demanding palates. Fish and shellfish can be served on the plate, in butter, in the form of moqueca or marinade. The tourist can delight in a varied menu of all shapes and flavors.
It is worth to know the night of "Piracaia"; Grilled fish with salt and lemon, served with cassava and pepper. The banquet under the starry sky is prepared by fishermen, at night under the heat of the fire, accompanied by the delicious regional juices, surrounded by people animated to the sound of guitar and music. The main chefs are always on hand for a more elaborate ritual and also indicate dumplings and other dishes based on piracuí flour, made with the shredded meat of the Acari, and also fish typical of the Amazon.

The predominant climate in Alter do Chão is hot and humid, with little variation of temperature during the year. The average annual temperature varies from 25º to 28ºC. The relative humidity of the air is 86%.
A pleasant breeze blows during the day. The night on the boat may be cool and the air conditioning is sometimes superfluous. From July to January it rarely rains, it is the season in which the white sand beaches reveal themselves. From February to June, it rains more frequently, especially at night, as the water level rises, allowing you to enter the rivers and their tributaries to the heart of the forest.
The highest rainfall intensity is in the winter, between December and May. In the summer, between June and November, it rains little.

Documentation required
The tourist visa will be granted to foreigners who travel to Brazil in a recreational or visiting nature, with no intention to immigrate or intend to exercise paid activity.
Tourist visas will also be awarded in the case of artistic competitions and sports competitions in which there are no ticket collection, nor remuneration paid by Brazilian source, as well as in the case of unpaid participants of congresses, conferences and seminars.

Proof of means of subsistence (bank account statement or document proving the possession of financial resources, at the discretion of the consular authority);
Proof of reservation with date of entry and exit of the Brazilian territory or travel ticket;
1 Recent photograph, 5x7 size or pass type, white and dated background;
1 Form "Application for Visa" duly completed and signed;
Unaccompanied minors, or in the company of one of the parents: authorization is required from both parents to issue a visa, in the first case, or from the non-traveling parent, in the second, with the signatures duly recognized in Public notary.
The Consulate General of Brazil reserves the right to request any other document that it deems necessary, in addition to those already enumerated above.

The yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for those who have traveled in the ninety days prior to travel to Brazil, for: Angola, Bolivia, Benin, Burkina, Cameroon, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, French Guiana , Gabon, Ghana, The Gambia, Republic of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Venezuela.
Immunization against yellow fever is advised for those who intend to travel to certain Brazilian cities and vaccination is required for others.

This vaccine is required to pass through Cayenne, Guyana. There is little malaria in this region of the Amazon.
