Monkey of the pile is kept in Tunja with reverent respect and when it passes before him, inexorably there must be silence, at least these are the last popular reverence.
This monument stands in the main square of Tunja and for 3 sigils, all the inhabitants of the capital of Boyacá receive water from this public pillar, which arrives through the paths of Varón and Detrás del alto. The monkey represents the God of silence. They have the right index finger on their lips, like avoiding the watercolors that do not speak as much when they refill liquid.
The production of this tablet dates back to 1567, due to the problem of supplying water for consumption in the city. A decade later, it was proposed that the city be supplied by the Boyacá River. The conductor Diego de Morales built "El Mono de la Pila" in 1573, it is raised by three posters in the Plaza Mayor (today that of Bolívar).

The fountain that is in the square that bears his name, in the original, the statue was damaged in 1872; As a feature and value that it represents in its time, a copy is made until 1915, which is diagonal to the Juan de Vargas House of Notary Public.
