This Jesuit temple, dating from the seventeenth century, was erected in the place where the Royal Palace of the New Alcazaba was located, which had been abandoned since the time of D. João II. Later, with the expulsion of the Jesuits from Portugal, by order of the Marquis of Pombal, the building began to host the Patriarchal Seminary, having thus remained until the twentieth century.
