The town of Saint George in Bermuda, founded in 1612, is a remarkable example of the oldest English urban settlement in the New World. Its associated fortifications graphically illustrate the development of English military engineering between the 17th and 20th centuries, with the necessary adaptations for the development of artillery in this period.
Saint George, a city older than Hamilton, also has greater charms. The primitive capital of Bermuda looks like a small town, with its narrow streets and old houses, recently restored and transformed into museums. Here you can visit the Old State House, the oldest archipelago residence.
Also very well preserved, the Tucker House (18th century) maintains period furniture. The Church of San Pedro is recognized as one of the oldest Anglican temples of worship in the world. Finally, if you are interested in the culture of the archipelago, you can learn about the role it played during the Civil War in the United States at the National Trust Museum.
