In a dominant position over the medieval village and the Seiça river, it is considered one of the most beautiful Portuguese castles.
The castle stands on the top of a hill, at a height of 330 meters above sea level. It presents / displays plant in the irregular triangular format, with towers in the vertices.
To the center of its square of arms abre an cistern of ogival plant, fed by a source.
The tower Northwest is known like Tower of D. Mécia, by that that unfortunate wife of D. Sancho II was confined there.
On the north side of the castle opens the Terreiro de Santiago, with a statue of the Countess D. Nuno Alvares Pereira in the center.
Ranked as National Monument.
