Symbol of the affirmation of the Czech nation in the nineteenth century, National Theater opened its doors in May 1868 Thanks to the will of the Czech people, all classes of society in Prague was able to participate in the construction of this beautiful building.
Financed by a national signature, the immense Theater and its golden ceiling dominate the Vltava River. The building began to be built during the second half of the 19th century, at the height of the Czech national recess, when the Czech people's desire to undo the influence of the Habsburgs and German culture in favor of Slavic culture was born. The construction of a luxury theater then translated the pride of the entire nation. The theater was inaugurated in 1881 with the opera Libuše (legendary Czech heroine) of Smetana.
Programming: the great Czech composers of the trilogy Janáček (Jenufa), Smetana (Libuše) and Dvořák (Rusalka), Italian operas of Verdi (Rigoletto, Aida, Requiem and Traviata) and Puccini (Tosca, Bohemia). As for the ballets, the National Theater pays homage to Tchaikovsky with Nutcracker and Swan Lake.
