The Choupal was finally planted to allow a better fixation of the plumbing of the River. There were many, many trees that since the 19th century have defied the growing time: Plantains, Faias, Loureiros, Eucalyptus.
With an area of 79 hectares, the forest of Choupal borders the river Mondego in an extension of 2 km.
Today is also the space, which many inhabitants of the City use to put their physical shape in day.
True ex-libris of the city, the Choupal, immortalized by the song Coimbrã, is the biggest green space of the City. With an area of about 79 hectares, for a maximum width of 400 meters, accompanies the river for more than 2 kilometers and allows a pleasant walk along the riverside.
