This museum is one of the most important cultural, research and scientific dissemination institutions in Mexico.
With 50 years of history and no profitable interest, there has been space for interaction and learning of cultural and natural diversity in this country, promoting sustainable development, respecting nature and caring for the environment. .
The museum has also offered visitors of all ages and special groups the facilities to learn, observe, experiment and support all kinds of activities in favor of nature.
The museum has a historical background dating back to 1790, as one of the earliest curatorial research institutions in the field of natural history.
However, it was opened as a Museum of Natural History on October 24, 1964. It was designed by Leónides Guadarrama, with a museum plan by Dionisio Peláez Fernández and Ernesto Valdés. It is an architectural set of three spherical or plated shells that represent an exhibition area of approximately 7,500 square meters, with large green areas that allow educational and savings activities. It is the largest museum of its kind in Mexico.
In addition to the astonishing collections exhibited in 10 rooms, the Museum offers guided tours (by reservation) for groups of 10 to 20 people. Two visits last between 30 and 35 minutes.
Equally curious recreational-educational activities and charlatans focused on science and nature. These activities include, among others, crafts.
Summer courses are also offered for children, teachers and the general public. With a cost of recovery and a particular topic on the knowledge and conservation of the environment.
There are also conference cycles on different topics with invited experts and videos and films on environmental awareness and conservation.
Inside the museum is the Xochiquezal library, a bibliographic collection made up of the Barrier Fund. There is also a library and La Chicharra library. The latter stimulates the integral development of children with games and directed activities.
There is also a store, with quality products from the ´´Sierra Madre´´ foundation committed to preserving the environment.
The Museum is located in Section 2 of the Chapultepec Forest s / n Miguel Hidalgo Delegation. C.P. 11800.
Its ports are open from Saturday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The price of general admission is 17.50 per person, 9.00 for students and drivers with a valid license.
Free admission on Tuesday (no service), as well as for older adults and vulnerable groups. The free activities on weekends are free with an entrance fee and during the week if you can request guided tours, workshops, videos, etc. with a cost per person of 12.
