The Museum of Decorative Arts in the Czech capital presents a wide collection of pieces of this passionate art.
The museum is housed in a Neo-Renaissance palace built by Josef Schulz between 1897 and 1899. You can discover a number of adornments, allegories of the arts and crafts, gold, embroidery, the press, glass and metal works ... in a few words, a number of pieces that invite you to discover the richness of artistic creation regardless of discipline. The collections are divided by the type of material used. "The history of fiber" presents fabrics, rugs and costumes. There you can discover how the many techniques of working wired (embroidery, fabrics, prints ...) participate in the creation of fashion. Meanwhile, the "Born in the fire" gallery, glass, ceramics and porcelain rival each other for their diversity of shapes, motifs and colors. In this gallery you will be able to see the elegance of Meisen porcelain, the geometric purity of Cubist design, the sophistication of glass work by Renaissance artists or the light transmitted by contemporary creations. Watches of all types and ages inhabit a small room, while another part of the museum is dedicated to precious metals, highlighting the artists' skill.
The visit ends at the gallery dedicated to the graphic arts, the crafts of the book and photography ... spheres of creation where the Czech school achieved a great success throughout the twentieth century.
