Lodo El Totumo volcano (mud volcano) is one of the most important excursions around Cartagena de Indias. It has a rich fauna and flora, but what attracts most is the type of mud in that place, very healthy. It has a privileged view and the feeling of tranquility is impressive.

On the Atlantic coast, between Barranquilla and Cartagena de Indias, on the border of the departments of Atlántico and Bolívar, Colombia, near the sea highway and near Ciénaga del Totumo, is located the Totumo volcano, also called mud volcano. This small volcano has an altitude of just over 20 meters.

Inside, the volcano is full of mud. Some years ago it was discovered that the mud contained sulfates, phosphates and magnesium, and that the mud, besides refreshing, has healing properties and serves to cure acne, ulcers, rheumatism, arthritis, fungi, etc. Every day groups of people come to enjoy this natural phenomenon and benefit from its healing properties.

The density of the mud prevents the sinking of the bathers. People often bathe after this activity in the Totumo Reservoir, an important natural freshwater resource.

Around the volcano operate some families who earn their living by serving restaurant service in typical kiosks.

Geographically, the volcano is located in the department of Bolivar (Colombia), culturally and economically, is more closely linked to the populations of the department of Bolivar, mainly Loma de Arena and Pueblo Nuevo and, of course, Cartagena de Indias, the city from which they depart daily. from sightseeing tours to appreciate the healing properties of the volcano.
