The park was for several years under the administration of the central government, but at the end of the 00s the law No. 28998 granted the administration of the Parque de las Leyendas to the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima. The municipality has since started to make big changes and improve the infrastructure of the park, which has been very deteriorated over the years.
The Parque de las Leyendas was founded as the first zoo in Peru by Felipe Benavides in 1964. It is located in the District of San Miguel in the city of Lima. Currently, apart from the zoo, it has a botanical garden, a site museum and you can also visit some of the huacas that are around the park.

Peru is one of the countries with the greatest biological diversity in the world and a large part of the Peruvian animal and plant species. Apart from native Peruvian species, the park has an area called the International Zone where there is a great diversity of animals from the rest of the world.
The park is divided into 4 zones according to the characteristics of the animals that are present.
