The Curral Covão Lagoon is part of the dams complex of the Sabugueiro power plant, EDP's electricity production in the Serra da Estrela, along with the dams of the Rossim Valley, Covhas da Penhas Douradas, Covão da Erva da Fome, Covão of the Valley of the Count and Lagoacho.
This power plant uses the energy from the Ribeira waters of Fervença and Covão do Urso and is fed by the Vale do Rossim and Lagoacho dams, and also by this Covão do Curral dam, interconnected by a tunnel in canal of adduction that leaves the dam of Lagoacho, a chamber of charge and a forced conduit. The plant has a single group, with nominal power of 10 MW, equipped with horizontal Pelton turbine. The average annual productivity is 28 GWh.
The artificial lagoon was born with the construction of this dam in Ribeira da Nave Travessa
It is at an altitude of 1480m, has about 1.1 km2 and storage capacity of 159,000 m3 of water.
