Very old chapel, showing three arcades supported by Paleo-inspired columns with Visigothic capitals (6th / 8th century).
The simple Chapel has a very interesting architectural structure (hexagonal plan topped by an octagonal pyramid-shaped dome).
On the magnificent promontory of Senhora da Rocha, is the Chapel of Senhora da Rocha.
Inside, the main altar, the altarpiece and the valuable wooden sculpture of Our Lady and the boy (16th century) are the testimony of the admirable heritage that enchants us with its symbolism and simplicity. According to historical sources, the Chapel was surrounded by an ancient fortress (15th century) that protected the populations and the coast from frequent attacks by the privateers disappearing during the 1755 earthquake.
In 1963, this monument of the parish of Porches was classified as a Public Interest Building, under the designation “Fort and Chapel of Our Lady of Rocha”.
