Located in Pará, in the region of Altamira, the Koatinemo Indigenous Land has approximately 388 thousand hectares and houses the Xingu Asurini, indigenous people of the Tupi-Guarani language group. Denomination given by the fronts of attraction, the Asurini got in touch with the national society in 1971. With this they suffered drastic population loss, reducing them to 50 individuals in a few years. Today, partially recovered, there are about 120 individuals to compose the group.
The Asurini are skilled ceramists whose production is an important seasonal activity of women. They are especially farmers, but also practice hunting, fishing and collecting forest products.
The commercial partnership in this area is based on the commercialization of raw nuts, which will be transformed into the premises of the indigenous cooperative in the city of Altamira, for sale to the cosmetics industry.
