Toen in 1669 de prins-regent D. Pedro de stichting van een klooster van de Orde van de Barefoot Augustijnen in Estremoz machtigde, begint een lang proces en iets moeilijks voor de inplanting van de orde. Het is bekend dat de algemeen toegewezen Augustijnen in 1671 in Estremoz aankomen en dat ze enige moeilijkheden hebben gehad totdat ze de plaats vinden om zich te vestigen in afhankelijkheden van de Broederschap van de Heilige Geest.
Ondanks de verbeteringswerken die door dezelfde Broederschap werden uitgevoerd, was het pas in het begin van de achttiende eeuw dat het gebouw het object was van grote en heilzame architecturale werken, tijdens het einde van het bewind van D. Pedro II, maar vooral tijdens het bewind van King Magnanimous, D. João V.
Buiten valt de sobere façade van de kerk en het klooster op, een barokke architectuur uit het begin van de Zeventig. Nog steeds op de gevel van de kerk, moeten de twee engelen het kruis vereren, evenals het schema op het portaal dat de datum van voltooiing van de kerk aangeeft, 1719.

Het interieur omvat een fenomenaal artistiek complex, dat een van de belangrijkste barokke gebouwen uit het graafschap Estremoz vormt, dat een algemene erkenning van dit belang verdient. Het zou dus billijk zijn om het hele gebouw te benadrukken, maar vanuit artistiek oogpunt heeft de kerk ongetwijfeld een duidelijk belang. Of het nu gaat om de schoonheid van altaaraltaren, tegelpanelen die worden toegeschreven aan António de Oliveira Bernardes (een van de bekendste schilders uit de barokperiode), het joanine-orgel in verguld en amoosa-snijwerk, de verschillende sets "enkele figuur" tegels van de verschillende vertrekken van het klooster.
