Kiama is a municipality 120 kilometers south of Sydney, in Illawarra, New South Wales, Australia, in the municipality of Kiama. One of the main tourist attractions is the Kiama Blowhole. The coastal town offers several popular surfing beaches, caravan parks and several outdoor cafes and restaurants. The beaches around Kiama offer a wide range of surfing conditions. Many surf competitions are held here every year. These include Boyds Beach - Kiama Downs, Bombo Beach - Bombo, Surf Beach - Kiama, Easts Beach and Caravan Park - Kiama Heights, Kendalls Beach - Kiama and Mystics Beach - Minnamurra River.

The name "Kiama" is derived from the Aboriginal word "kiarama", which means "Place where the sea makes noise". Kiama is also known as the place where the mountains touch the sea. This is in reference to the Kiama Blowhole, which attracts a large number of visitors each year.

A few kilometers to the north, in Bombo, is the Cathedral Rocks, a well-known and visited formation, with a walk / cycle path along the coast of Kiama. There are other rock formations on these headlands of moderately renowned cliffs.

A locally famous phenomenon is the local group of Australian pelicans. The pelicans were honored with a metal statue in the harbor.

Seven miles southwest of Saddleback town is Lookout at the top of Saddleback mountain 600 feet high with views of the Illawarra plains and escarpments for Nowra, Pigeon House Mountain and Coolangatta Mountain. The Saddleback and Noorinan Mountains provide an impressive backdrop for the city.

Jamberoo Action Park, the theme park facing the water, is located 10 minutes from Kiama in the small town of Jamberoo.

To the west of Kiama, on the green hills lies the Jerrara Dam, built in 1800 to provide water for the area. Now it's a reservation.

North of the Minnamurra River is Killalea Recreation Area, a nature reserve in Bass Point. It is south of Shellharbour.
