Gastronomy
The gastronomy is essentially typical home cooking based on fresh ingredients including tomatoes, fresh basil and oregano sprigs, fennel, artichokes, onion and garlic among other natural seasonings. Traditionally the pastas are served as the first course. The classic Neopolitan includes a variation of delicious sauces, followed by meat or fish as the second dish. Desserts are usually simple fruit salads to the most elaborate desserts, such as "coviglie al caffe" - a flavored coffee cream - plus delicious cakes and sweets to tempt you. Nothing better than alfresco dining in the cool shade, or next to a typical wood-fired oven that brings you your Pizza Margherita accompanied with locally produced red wine. With elegant restaurants you can be sure that all Neapolitan dishes are served with an exquisite Italian touch.
Climate
The climate of southern Italy can be very hot in the summer, yet the refreshing coastal breezes tend to moderate the temperature making it more pleasant.
