Luxembourg
Luxembourg, officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a small sovereign state situated in Western Europe, bordered by Belgium, France and Germany. Luxembourg has a population of just over half a million people in an area of approximately 2586 km².
Being a representative parliamentary democracy with a Grand Duke as constitutional monarch, Luxembourg is the only remaining Grand Duchy.
Its historical and strategic importance goes back to its foundation, as a Roman fortress in the early Middle Ages. It was an important Spanish bastion along the road when Spain was the leading European power influencing the entire western hemisphere and beyond the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Luxembourg is a founding member of the European Union, NATO, OECD, UN, Benelux and Western European Union, reflecting the political consensus in favor of economic cohesion, politics and military integration. The city of Luxembourg, the capital and largest city, is home to several institutions and bodies of the European Union.
Luxembourg is at the meeting point between Romanesque Europe and Germanic Europe, employing customs from each of the different traditions. Luxembourg is a trilingual country, where German, French and Luxembourgish are official languages. Although it is a secular state, the predominant religion in the country is Catholicism.

Anyone who enjoys hiking will also love the Chemin de La Corniche, promenade that takes the visitor to a breathtaking view of the city. The oldest part of the city's fortress are the Casemates, tunnels and stone corridors that have served as refuge in conflicts throughout history.
