La Junta
Located in the north of the Aysén region at the junction of two valleys, the Rosselot and Palena Rivers, the city of La Junta presents a wide range of natural and human resources that give rise to constant commercial and tourist growth. Its current development is the result of the inauguration of the central segment of the Southern Highway in 1983.
It is part of the Palena - Queulat Basin, a territory still unexplored, which combines a lot of green forests and very pure waters.
This road connects La Junta with the city of Puerto Montt, 356 kilometers to the north, and Coyhaique, 266 kilometers to the south. It is the most active city in the Palena Basin due to its good fields and for having diversified its activities of cattle raising. Its commercial strategy is to supply all kinds of goods to the rest of the region.
It is known as the city of meetings because of its geographical location but also because it is worth to experience a meeting with its people, its history and all the unexplored areas it has to offer.
Tourism
The offer of tourist services increases day by day, including a wide range of accommodation options, gastronomic facilities and tour operators. The personalized attention and the good disposition for the visitors are the typical characteristics of this population.
Charme rivers and lakes are the epicenter of sport fishing, in any season and with any technique: trolling, fly fishing or spinning.
Hiking, horseback riding and rural tourism begin in La Junta towards the four cardinal points.
The annual calendar includes two well-known festivals: the traditional celebrations at the end of January and the city's birthday in the second week of February.
La Junta stands out as an ideal place to rest. There is practically no night life, except at the time of the festivities.
Gastronomy
Some of the important dishes are empanadas, corn tarts, corn cakes, beans and curanto.
Wines and fruits from this region are produced in this highly fertile central zone of the country.
Besides the wine, the traditional drink is 'pisco', mixed with egg white, lemon juice and sugar.
Not to be missed, pizzas and fast food are also present in the city.
Weather
The climate is variable, the rains are interspersed with moments of sun, and from September we begin to appreciate the beauty of spring.
There are four seasons in most of the country: summer (December to February), autumn (March to May), winter (June to August) and spring (September to November).
