Mértola is a Portuguese village in the district of Beja, Alentejo region and sub-region of Baixo Alentejo. The village is situated on an elevation on the right bank of the river Guadiana, immediately upstream of the confluence of the Oeiras river.

It is home to one of the largest municipalities in Portugal, with 1,279.40 km² of area and subdivided into 7 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipalities of Beja and Serpa, to the east by Spain, to the south by Alcoutim and to the west by Almodôvar and by Castro Verde.

Knowledge linked to tradition created a set of traditional products with unique flavors and qualities. Bread, honey, goat and sheep cheese, sausages, sweets and weaving are some of the traditional products of the Municipality of Mértola. In order to promote these products, the Autarchy annually holds the "Honey, Cheese and Bread Fair" in April.
