Porto
Porto is a Portuguese city, capital of the homonymous district, located in the north-west of Portugal and belonging to the North region and sub-region of Greater Porto.
It is the seat of a municipality with 41,42 km ² of area, subdivided into seven parishes. The city metropolis, constituted by the adjacent municipalities that form between them a unique urban agglomerate, counts on approximately 1 300 000 inhabitants, which makes it the greater one of the peninsular northwest. The city is considered a global city range.
The city of Porto is known as the Invicta City and as the Capital of the North. It has an old socio-economic link to England and is the city where the largest British community in Portugal lives, being even considered the Portuguese city with the most "Central European" temperament and where the oldest and most consistent Jewish roots of the Portuguese , through a millennial "Marian" inheritance, where the old Central European adage of the Protestant ethic that recovers the spirit of a Jewish "nation" and which has generated the free play of capitalism and the market economy can best be verified in Portugal : "Stadtluft macht frei" ("The air of the city liberates"). It is the city that gave the name to Portugal - from very early (c. 200 BC), when it was called Portus Cale, later to become the capital of the Portucalense County, from where Portugal was formed and from where, more later, the Portuguese Empire was built, since it was built, mostly, by people from the North Region. Porto has a Mediterranean climate of the type Csb according to the climatic classification of Köppen-Geiger. In winter temperatures range between 5 ° C and 14 ° C rarely dropping below 0 ° C. During this season rainy periods alternate with cooler days and clear skies. In the summer temperatures range from 15 ° C to 25 ° C and may occasionally reach or even exceed 35 ° C in July or August.
