During the pre-Inca times, in the place that it is today, there was a lagoon and that in the heights of the Pusunmaraca, Pardomicuna and Huanchán hills there were tribes, which were dominated by the Incas. When the Spanish arrived at the time of the conquest, they settled in the hoyada (lake that had dried up) founded the town of Huasahuasi. They say that at the time of the viceroyalty, the huasahuasina potato was highly sought after in the capital, being transferred to it with llamas, yellow potatoes were the preferred ones.
Before becoming a district, Huasahuasi was annexed to Junín, Palcamayo and Acobamba, until January 2, 1857, the district of Huasahuasi was created, being ratified on November 28, 1912 by D.L. In 1674 its patron is San Juan Bautista, celebrated on June 24.
The name Huasahuasi derives from two Quechua words, "Huashan" (Back) and "Huasi" (House or House), which mean: The house behind, or house behind the Hill.
The name was Castilianized until it became Huasahuasi. This name through time and circumstances, was changing, so at the time of its foundation was called: Huashan Huayi; later, Huashanhuay; then San Juan de Huasahuasi and currently Huasahuasi.
Located at 2,754 meters above sea level, 48 km from the city of Tarma, with an area of 925.08 km2.
Its limits are the following: to the east; with the province of Chanchamayo, to the west; with the districts of Palcamayo and San Pedro de Cajas, to the north; with the district of San Pedro de Cajas and the province of Junín and to the south; with the districts of Acobamba and Palca.
Huasahuasi, is one of the main districts of the nine that make up the Province of Tarma. It is located at 2,750 meters above sea level, it is one of the lowest districts in the province of Tarma. Huasahuasi is located in the northern part
of the province of Tarma, between meridians 75 ° and 76 ° of western longitude and between parallels 11 and 11.30 South latitude, belongs to the Junin Region that includes the Central Sierra of Peru and part of Ceja de Selva.
Huasahuasi is a city where you can enjoy the hospitality of its people, the beauty of its natural places, such as snow-capped mountains, lagoons, countryside, its hamlets, and learn about its history through its archaeological sites, its churches.

The main lagoons are located in Cayan and Casca. In Cayan, there are Mamancocha, Raypicocha, Milpacocha, Parajsho, Manarimarinacocha, in Casca Morococha, Maniacocha, Huascacocha, Yanacocha, Patarcocha, Torococha among others.
