Guática, one of the oldest towns in Risaralda, created 65 years after the arrival of Cristóbal Colon, to American territory, in a municipality of indigenous origin and family of the Ansermas, is a peasant town that preserves much of its aboriginal history in the caves and tunnels where the chief Guática hid the gold of the Spanish siege.



Guática is a municipality in the department of Risaralda in Colombia, it is located 93 km north of the departmental capital Pereira. Its territories are mountainous and forming part of the Western Cordillera, its soils are watered by the waters of the Guática, Opirama and Oro rivers, as well as by several streams that cross streams and smaller courses. The Guática River is its main hydrographic source, it is born in the Alto San Vicente sector (Department of Antioquia) and descends in small rapids, interrupted by long pools until it reaches its mouth in the Risaralda River.

Its main tributaries include: Río Frio, Quebrada Castillón, Rio del Oro, Opiramá, Tarqui, El Salado, Ocharma, La mesa, Sirva, El Jordán, Agua Bonita, El Caucho, La Carmela, Paraíso, Los Chorros, Cristalina, Albarán , Guaravita, La Esperanza.

Guática's economy is generally based on crops and trade.

Among the wide areas of natural wealth and high potential of scenic, cultural and recreational interest, Guática offers tourists the exuberant Biological Corridor of La Cuchilla de San Juan, the Municipal Natural Park of La Cristalina- La Mesa, the quartz mine, the hill Las Peñas, the Gamonrá hill, the jets sector and the Gamonrá Botanical Garden, located at the exit of the Pira village, with an area of ​​8 hectares, has an altitude of 1,940 meters above sea level and an average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius. Place where 52 families of flora are found, with 77 genera and 87 species and a great variety of fauna (Guppi, iguana, hunting snake, machete back, coral falca, hicotea turtle, squirrel, sabanero rabbit, opossum, duck and goose) , of which the vast majority have been introduced by different members of the garden.



The preservation and conservation of their customs, traditional and the roots left by their ancestors, allows its inhabitants to wear the traditional poncho, hat and carriel, within the framework of their daily life.
