Cutervo National Park is Peru's first National Park, created on September 8, 1961. Its existence was a decisive precedent for the creation of the current National System of Peruvian State Protected Natural Areas (SINANPE). Its extension is 2,500 hectares, located in Peru's Western Andes Tarros mountain range in Cutervo-Cajamarca, with altitudes ranging from 2200 to 3500 meters above sea level.



It is located in the area called Cordillera de Tarros (2200-3500 m), located between the towns of La Capilla, San Andrés de Cutervo, La Flor and the town of Cutervo, 260 kilometers from Cajamarca; in the Páramo ecoregion, in the department of Cajamarca.



The main attractions are the Cave of the Guácharos and the Cave Catfish in the underground streams. In addition, the park is home to an abundance of flora and fauna scattered in dwarf forests, meadows and mist.



The Park also houses endangered wildlife such as the jaguar (Panthera jaguar), the tigrillo (Leopardus pardalis), the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus), the otter (Lontra longicaudis), the wild cat (Oncifelis colocolo), the High Tapir (Tapirus pinchaque), Golden-headed Peacock or Quetzal (Pharomachrus auriceps) and Rock Pica (Rupicola peruviana).
