The restoration of the townhouse, destroyed by a fire in the 1970s, at Rua da Estrela, on the corner of Rua João Vital de Matos, where the property is located that will be fully restored and rehabilitated to become a Reference Center for the Drum of Crioula do Maranhão .

The Sobrado:

Built between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century in an urban area designed by the Portuguese military engineer Francisco Frias de Mesquita (17th century), the Sobrado da Rua da Estrela is an important Portuguese architectural example from Maranhão. Located in an area classified by Iphan as an Architectural and Landscape Complex since 1974, it is also protected by state legislation of 1986, and also bears the title of World and Cultural Heritage of Humanity, granted by Unesco in 1997. It also stands out, for its privileged implantation in the historical urban scenario of Praia Grande, stage of cultural manifestations.

In 1978 a fire completely destroyed the roof and the internal installations that housed the emporium of the brothers José Nicodemos and Hildo Rocha Filho, an important stowage store in Praia Grande. For Iphan, in the year in which São Luís celebrates 400 years, the restoration and rehabilitation of this building, while promoting the preservation of one of the architectural heritage's examples, incorporates a valuation equipment to the Crioula Drum, the first cultural asset Maranhão, registered on June 18, 2007, as Cultural Heritage of Brazil, contributing effectively to safeguard this cultural practice.
