The gossips say that Corina Kavanagh, a woman who belonged to a wealthy but not patrician family, had it built to avenge an unaccepted romance between one of her daughters and a young man from the Anchorena family, one of the most illustrious surnames in Argentina. .
Annoyed by the opposition of the Anchorenas, Corina, somewhat resentful, wanted to overshadow a beautiful architectural work that also today delights tourists and passers-by who walk through Retiro: the church of the Santísimo Sacramento, which the Anchorena had built around 1920 to use as a tomb family.
The only request she made to the architects Gregorio Sánchez, Ernesto Lagos and Luis María De la Torre was that the building, whose main entrance is located in Florida 1065, cover the basilica. Today, to face the church, the only alternative is to stop in the Corina Kavanagh passage, which also belongs to the building. Consummate revenge.
Originated in the division of the original apple donated by the Flores family. The resulting parcels were sold in order to obtain funds for the construction of the present temple.
The Corina Kavanagh Passage was delimited as a result of the construction of the Kavanagh Building.
Today, to face the church of the Most Holy Sacrament, the only alternative is to stop at the Corina Kavanagh passage, which also belongs to the building. This is because the very tall building was built precisely, with the intention of obstructing the view of the church, ordered to be built by Mrs. Mercedes Castellanos de Anchorena; this woman of the aristocracy said that if she lived in a palace, her God also deserved one. It was finished in 1916; it was designed by French architects Coulomb and Chauvet.
