Located just fifteen kilometers from Funchal, the municipality of Ribeira Brava has a cultural heritage including the Igreja Matriz, a small fortification, the Fort of São Bento da Ribeira Brava, the Ethnographic Museum of Madeira, housed in an old house that worked , from the 19th century onwards, as a mill for sugar cane milling and the production of brandy and a small museological center dedicated to sacred art, where the treasure of the Matrix is found.
We can also find the former dwelling of the founder of the Municipality, Francisco Correia de Heredia, Visconde da Ribeira Brava. In the old manor, dating from the XVIII / XIX centuries, the building of the Town Hall is functioning, possessing in its interior a magnificent garden, with innumerable natural species.
