Cerro Ñielol is a leafy corner very close to the city. In addition to protecting its biological diversity, this area starred in one of the most representative historical events in the region.

It is a true refuge that invites you to contemplate the city from its viewpoints, breathe fresh air and remember the history of the region. Within the natural reserve that includes 89 hectares, this hill rises that reaches 200 m.a.s.l. It is one of the classic tours for both Temuco visitors and residents.

The protected wild area was created by the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) in the 1970s, a fact that reaffirmed the protection granted by the declaration of natural monument of 1939.

This authentic island for native flora and fauna is formed by one of the last native forests of the intermediate depression of the central-southern valley of Chile. The lingues, laurels, raulíes, coihues and oaks grow forming a dense foliage that colors the national flower red: the copihue.

The climatic conditions of the central zone and the humidity of the Valdivian forest favor the great biological diversity. The hill is home to bandurrias, tiuques (chimangos), foxes and the unique little monkey of the mountain, the smallest marsupial in the world, which is difficult to observe.

Just 5 blocks from the mall.

Finally, in one of the viewpoints offered by Cerro Ñielol you can see an imposing panoramic view of all of Temuco. It is in this precise place, known as Patagua, where five chamemules (or wooden statues) are erected that commemorate the 1881 parliament. On this historical date the Mapuche people gave part of their lands so that the city could rise, declaring the armistice and thus culminating the struggles against the Spanish colonizers in the Araucanian region.
