Imposing monument of religious art, the largest in Latin America built in reinforced concrete and one of the most majestic in the world of its kind. The first stone was laid by Monsignor Tiberio de Jesús Salazar, Bishop of Manizales, on February 5, 1928; Its architect Julián Polty, French Chief of Historical Monuments in Paris, began work with the Italian company of Papio and Bonarda. Neo-Gothic in style and its semicircle or vaulted frames are typical of the romantic style, in addition to the Polish Corridor and musealization of the 4 towers that make it known as the second masterpiece of Colombian architecture in particular. With an approximate weight of 20,000 tons it covers an area of 2,400 square meters and a height of 106 meters, it can host 5,000 faithful; Its construction was completed in December 1939, and it was declared a National Monument on November 24, 1984.
The new structure, built in concrete and reinforced concrete, is the only one of its kind in America, with an area of 2,500 square meters and a capacity for 5,000 parishioners.
It is the second tallest temple in America, only surpassed by the Cathedral of Maringá, in Brazil.
It has a central tower where the Polish corridor is located and four lateral towers: that of San Pablo, Santa Inés, San Marcos and that of San Francisco. It is a site that cannot be missed.
In front of the Plaza de Bolívar in the center of the city.
The Cathedral of Manizales offers a historical, cultural and tourist route through the entire temple until reaching the Polish corridor at 102 meters high, that is, at 2252 meters above sea level from where you can see the entire city, some northern municipalities and the west of Caldas, as well as the departments of Risaralda, Quindío, Choco, Antioquia, Tolima and Valle del Cauca, and of course offers a majestic view of the five peaks that make up the Nevados National Natural Park.
The Polish corridor is open from Thursday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM including holidays, leaving groups every 30 minutes accompanied by a specialized guide and at a cost of 5,000 Colombian pesos US 3.0. or 1.5 euros.
