The Cathedral of Ambato is one of the most visited places. This modern building stands out in the architectural passage of the city for its precious proportions; It is the most important church of Catholics. The Cathedral can be seen from all corners of the city due to its imposing dome, it was built to replace the Main Church of Ambato that was seriously affected by the earthquake of 1949

Description
The original chapel was built in 1698 when after the earthquake the city settled in that place, it was a large thatched hut that gradually grew with the contributions of the priostes and
the festivities until it was replaced by another church on the same site as the current Cathedral.
The Chapel was a large building with three naves, with daring arches and an aurora dome, which was completely destroyed as a result of the terrible earthquake in 1797.
The construction of a new church was immediately undertaken, which was structured with stone and with a beautiful design, receiving the name of the Mother Church, which was also destroyed on August 5, 1949 by a strong earthquake.

• Current Cathedral: The current building is monumentally larger in volume than its predecessor and among other differences it has a predominant white color, a high tower with its visible pilasters and a large central nave with a wide vault culminates.
