The Archaeological Museum of Ancash has within its facilities the largest "Lithic Park" or "Stone Park" in America. Its name derives from the fact that it exhibits around 140 pre-Hispanic monoliths, most of them belonging to the Recuay culture, the area of the Vertientes and the Callejón de Huaylas and the Conchucos. It also presents a good representative sample of the native flora of the region, such as quenual, alder, molle, capuli, among other varieties.

The Recuay culture developed between 200 to 600 years AD, in the period known as Regional Developments or Early Intermediate, with the Ancash mountain range as the main area of nuclear development. It was contemporary (in the Central Andean Area) with the Moche, Lima, and Nasca cultures.

One of the main technological manifestations of the Recuay is their lithic art or stone work. Of a naturalistic and symbolic character, the system of social and ideological organization can be observed in it.
