Located on a lateral branch of the Andes Mountains, the park is characterized by its volcanoes, forests, caves, rivers and lagoons.

Dominating the landscape and determining its relief, the Villarrica volcano is its greatest attraction. With a height of 2,847 meters above sea level, and despite having the reputation of being the most active in South America, this volcano is the center of tourist activity in the area. On its slopes there is a well-equipped ski center and caves of volcanic origin that can be explored. On the other hand, you can climb to the crater of the volcano to admire not only the landscape of lakes and lagoons that surround the colossus, but also to observe the lava that boils inside.



It is located 8 km southwest of Pucón.



Santiago-Temuco: air or land. From Temuco, take Route 5 Sur and take the detour to Villarrica in Freire. From Villarrica take the road that goes to Pucón and that borders the lake, approximately at kilometer 24 you will find the detour to the park. It is 8 kilometers along gravel road to the Rucapillán sector of the reserve.



The park has an area of ​​63 thousand hectares, with extensive forests of araucaria and lenga, in the upper sectors, and raulí, long-leaf mañío and coigüe, in the lower sectors. The wooded areas allow the existence of a varied fauna, highlighting pumas, chilla and culpeo foxes, pudúes, coipos, peucos, quiques, chingues and monitos del monte, one of the three species of marsupials that exist in Chile.
