Villarrica del Espiritu Santo is a town in southern central Paraguay. It is the capital of the department of Guairá.
The present Paraguayan city is located in the south center of Paraguay, was founded by Spanish captain Ruy Díaz de Melgarejo on May 14, 1570 in the former territory of Guayrá, today Brazilian territory of the state of Paraná.
The evergreen green city, a symbol of dreams and hopes, invites those who wish to prove that nature and culture can coexist as related and complementary entities.
Villarrica has places that resemble part of Paraguayan culture, such as the monument erected in memory of the poet Manuel Ortiz Guerrero, favorite son of this city.
It has a very benign and healthy climate in general, with an average temperature of 21 ° C. In summer, the maximum is 38 ° C; in winter the minimum is 1 ° C. It rains a lot in October and November.
Due to its pleasant climate, Villarrica is considered a panacea for the physical and mental recovery of those who visit.
There are many attractions nearby, such as the beautiful city of Yataity, where Ao Po'i's delicate craftsmanship is made, and the German colonies, where delicious wines and other quality products are produced.
One of the most visited places in the city is the Manuel Ortiz Guerrero Park, before 1936, Ycua Pytâ (red spring in the Guarani language). Like nowhere else in the city, Villarrica's soul throbs here. The peaceful and welcoming nature of the place helps to forget the hard work and anguish that they may afflict. Ideal place to relax body and spirit.
Manuel Ortiz Guerrero Park is located in a northeast corner of the city, between the neighborhoods of Ybaroty and San Miguel. It has a pedestrian path for aerobic exercise.
The runic inscriptions located on the Itá Letra hill are also an important tourist center. Traces between 2,000 and 4,000 years become evidence of the passage of primitive men through the Ybytyruzú mountain range. The bas-relief figures left by pre-Columbian civilization on the rocks of the Rocasa chain are the result of some religious ritual or perhaps represent ancient routes, according to some scholars.
Other cultural centers should visit the "Maestro Fermín López Municipal Museum and Library", in which personal belongings of Natalicio de María Talavera, Fermín López, armaments and ammunition of the Chaco War (1932-1935) and of the Paraguayan War or War against Triple Alliance (1865-1870), a collection of Paraguayan coins and notes, as well as bows, arrows and axes of indigenous manufacture.
In the museum you can see, among many other objects, antique furniture, disused machines, paintings, photographs and various sacred works of art donated by the diocese of Villarrica. The building where the antiquities center operates was before the War against the Triple Alliance, the headquarters of the La Patria school, whose director was Professor Fermín López, hero of that war fight.
