The park at the Nordbahnhof is this 5.5 hectare park in the Berlin district of Mitte between Gartenstrasse and Caroline-Michaelis-Strasse on the site of the old Nordbahnhof.
From 1842 onwards, no Stettin station means that the trains to Stettin and Pomerania belong to the terminus. Heavy traffic traffic to take into account, 1876 new building at the three meters above street level, which was 1903. In 1950 the station in the North Station was renamed, a reference to the nun in Poland. 1952 the administration of the station is due to the war destruction as well as because of the unfavorable location of the Reichsbahn, since the track administration over West Berlin area belongs. From 1955 to 1962 the station building was certain to be different. The systems of the north-south tunnels of the S-Bahn running parallel to the long-distance railway tracks with the tunnel entrance at the level of Schwartzkopffstrasse were bought.
With the construction of the wall in 1961, the area became part of the border fortifications. This is the west of the S-Bahn and the angel Caroline Caroline-Michaelis-Straße the so-called hinterland wall and death strip and another border wall, the course of which is today through a row of paving stones. So the situation was decided that the border between the East Berlin district of Mitte with the hinterland wall in the west and the West Berlin district of Hochzeit with the three meter high clinker wall in the east.
As early as 1995, an urban and landscape planning ideas competition for the design of the park took place, and the working group Atelier Loegel (architects) from Krakow and Fugmann & Jonotta (landscape planners) from Berlin won for themselves. It was not until the spring of 2004 that a man started realizing the project.
The park is under the management of Grün Berlin GmbH, according to the plans of the Berlin office for landscape architecture and landscape development Fugmann & Janotta. As the funds were not refused, the right dragged on to the defense on May 14, 2009. The total costs are believed to be around 1.6 million euros, which are largely protected from so-called compensation management for tax interventions in nature and the landscape, with different prospects for construction projects. On the newest and the other area of the former Szczecin suburban train station (today called Stettiner Carré) it will be the Deutsche Bahn office buildings for more than 2000 employees, so that the state of the Deutsche Bahn will give approx. 65% of the total costing. The same kittens in projects of the state of Berlin and other investors. In addition, investment funds from the Mitte district amounting to around 40,000 euros are available for the construction of a streetball court and playground equipment. [1] In 2011, the adjoining building complex of one of the north train stations Carré Administration and Infrastructure today, with 3700 working conditions, became the work location of Deutsche Bahn in Germany.
The renovation of the Wall and Gartenstrasse is a political task and is managed from the monument title of the Senate Department for Urban Development. The total costs for this amounted to 1.1 million euros.
The park's most distinctive feature is its location three meters above street level of the legacy of the North Railway Station. The clinker wall and the garden street and the traditional interior wall shape the character of the park. You are at the employment contracts of the state railway facilities. The permanent signal box Noa is located on Schwartzkopffstrasse and is currently being converted into a town house. Another special feature is the Szczecin tunnel, the East Berlin Schwartzkopffstraße with the West Berlin Gartenstraße, which was open as early as 1952 by the GDR authorities. There is an “archaeological window” here, which enables contact in one's own walled-in under personal border installations.
The past as part of the border fortifications is also recognized by the hinterland wall and the course of the border wall marked by a two-row cobblestone paving, as well as parts of the loving post route of the border troops. Together with the proximity of the Berlin Wall Memorial, the park is part of the wall memorial concept. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, this expanded spontaneous vegetation of birch trees and steppe-like tall grasses that are typical of Berlin, the habitat for many birds and other small animals in the north. This situation - "the big meadow at the north station" - is preserved and gives the park its own ability today. In this large meadow there are certain rights that are connected to the main paths by metal walkways. Here you will find games and sports as well as recreational areas. Shade belongs to light trees that are must have lockers across the lawns. At the edge of Gartenstraße there is a 20 to 30 meter wide strip of wood, which includes a shady relaxation area. A lane that reigns from the old course of the wall, where I leave myself and for the anglage of the wall path.
Remarks are the sticks made of sandstones and granite shelves, which are supposed to offer habitats for various small animals.
The BergMitte high ropes course on Wolfthornstrasse is the responsibility of the Mitte district and includes several beach volleyball fields that are connected to the park and form the other part of the green area.
The S-Bahn, the north-south tunnel in the park area, this is the area covered by the safety regulations. For park visitors, this barrier and narrow visible area leads to the Liesenbrücke, which man can exit from the side through a new Angel Life staircase and the brick wall in Gartenstraße.
