Es handelt sich um ein Gebäude im gotisch-manuelinischen Stil aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, in dem überwiegend regionale Materialien verwendet wurden. Das Highlight sind Estremoz-Marmor, Mauerwerk und Fliesen.
Es gibt einige architektonische und künstlerische Aspekte, die einen besonderen Blick auf dieses Gebäude verdienen.
Auf der Nordseite des großen Terreiro in der Innenstadt von Estremoz - Rossio Marquês de Pombal - steht das Gebäude, das als Kloster der Malteser oder St. John of Penance bezeichnet wird.
Es wurde als nationales Denkmal eingestuft, insbesondere als Kreuzgang der Barmherzigkeit. Hier ist das Living Science Center von Estremoz installiert.
