Created in 1969 by the Contemporary Art Museum, with the purpose of preserving and recovering the audiovisual memory of Paraná, through discs, films, audio and video tapes, testimonies and records of oral history, scores, photographs, documents, equipment photographic and sound. In 1989, it transferred, after having had two other headquarters, to the current one, that was constructed between 1870 and 1890 and already it housed the headquarters of the State Government, the Police Headquarters and the Secretariat of Justice. The building was also the residence of the engineer Leopoldo Inácio Weiss, who, together with the Italian engineer Ernesto Guaita, signed the construction project. The Museum was deactivated from 1980 to 1984, returning to work in 1985.
