Memorial Hiroshima Peace Memorial, also called the Genbaku Dome or Atomic Bomb Dome by the Japanese, is located in Hiroshima, Japan.
The building was originally designed by the Czech architect Jan Letzel for the Hiroshima Prefecture Exhibition (HMI). It was completed in April 1915 and officially opened in August of that year.
The hypocenter of the atomic explosion of August 6, 1945 is situated only 150 meters away from the building, it was the closest structure that resisted the impact. The building was immediately preserved exactly as it was after the bombing, serves today as a memorial of nuclear devastation and a symbol of hope for world peace and the elimination of all nuclear weapons.
