O nome se deve ao fato de antigamente ser freqüentada pelos ricos coronéis do cacau. Hoje, é a mais procurada do litoral sul por banhistas e turistas, apresentando uma extensa faixa de areia margeada por um coqueiral. Sua infra-estrutura inclui uma área para acampamento, várias cabanas padronizadas, chuveiros e sanitários.
