A área da Reserva Biológica (Rebio) é constituída por parte da base de Pirambu e parte da base de Ponta dos Mangues.
Os 45 km de praias e 2766 ha da Rebio de Santa Isabel são formados por importantes e delicados ecossistemas costeiros, compostos por cordões de dunas móveis e fixas, manguezais, lagoas temporárias e permanentes de grande beleza.
Além de ser considerada a área brasileira com maior concentração de desovas de Lepidochelys olivacea, a Rebio é procurada pelas aves-marinhas migratórias e por outras espécies animais em busca de alimentação e repouso. Por isso o TAMAR defendeu e trabalhou pela criação de uma unidade de conservação que garantisse a preservação destes delicados ecossistemas.
