Si tratta di un edificio in stile gotico-manuelino del XVI secolo in cui sono stati applicati materiali prevalentemente regionali alla sua costruzione, con il clou del marmo di Estremoz, della muratura e delle piastrelle.
Ci sono diversi aspetti architettonici e artistici che meritano uno sguardo speciale in questo edificio.
Sul lato settentrionale del grande terreiro del centro di Estremoz - Rossio Marquês de Pombal - e immerso nella casa, sorge l'edificio chiamato Convento delle Maltesas o San Giovanni della Penitenza.
Classificato come Monumento Nazionale, in particolare il Chiostro della Misericordia, è in questo luogo che è installato il Living Science Center di Estremoz.
